Writing
At Christ the King Catholic Primary School, we understand that writing is a skill that comprises of multiple components. Starting in Reception, children begin to develop their fine and gross motor skills in readiness for writing. Initially, children will follow the process of writing letters set out in the our phonics programme, Little Wandle. Later in Year 2, handwriting begins to follow the Nelson handwriting scheme.
As children move into Key Stage 1 and beyond, they will begin to write fiction and non-fiction pieces of writing scaffolded by the research-driven foundations of Jane Considine. Writing is initially demonstrated by the teacher using input from the children before children are allowed to use the resources provided to create their own writing.
